Tobias Schilling, MD, MBA worked as a paramedic from 1992 to 1995 at the German Red Cross, studied medicine in Hannover and finished his thesis on “Tissue Engineering of bioartificial heart valve prostheses” in 2004.


He worked as a physician in the Department of Cardiothoracic, Transplantation, and Vascular Surgery of Hannover Medical School, which provided deep insights into organizing lean and effective processes in an extremely demanding health care environment. After his assignment as a surgeon, he consulted clinics on hospital management topics.


Dr. Schilling ran several scientific projects in the fields of clinic management, research management, and tissue engineering.


The State University Nicolae Testemitanu in Chisinau, Moldova granted him the title “Visiting Professor” in 2011 for his work on the economic impact of migration on hospitals.


Dr. Schilling founded a startup company for internet marketing and consulting in 1998 that he ran until 2023. He gained vast experience from a plethora of successful and non-successful strategic, operational, academic, and scientific projects focussing on healthcare.


Dr. Schilling extended his empiric business knowledge with studies on business administration in the University of Applied Sciences, Neu-Ulm, Germany, which he concluded with a master thesis entitled “Evaluation of management and leadership in research organizations” in 2016.


Dr. Schilling chairs the department for business development of the Hospitals of the Region of Hannover (KRH) since 2021 where he is responsible for the development and execution of the medical strategy.


He is an active member of the Expert Advisory Board and the Working Group “Medical Strategy” of the Alliance of Large Municipal Hospitals (AKG) of Germany.
